Article 6:
“The Omnivore’s Delusion: Against the Agri-intellectuals”
Blake Hurst
April 27, 2018
Author Note:
Blake Hurst is a third-generation farmer from Missouri. He is also the President of the Board Of
Directors and member of the Missouri Farm Bureau. He has been a member and volunteering for
thirty-two years.
Farming has always been messy and painful, and bloody and dirty. It still is.
Hurst believes that organic farming is unrealistic. He says he lives in the real world and
he will not go organic even if a consumer forces his hand.
Hurst believes people think farmers are too stupid to farm sustainably, too cruel to treat
their animals well, and too careless to care about their families, their health, and their
communities.
People who criticize industrial farming are concerned more with how their food is raised.
Hurst considers organic production to be troublesome.
