Psych Notes April 2 EXAM 2 WILL BE APRIL 16 TH IQ test is a good indicator of academic performance. Intelligence is an aspect of human capacity – it is a general phenomenon People who are highly intelligent ought to be successful in academic environments It was designed to correlate well with academic performance. But as we realized that there were activities outside the academic world should be considered “intelligence” the test became more and more apparent that the IQ test was not an accurate general intelligence finder. Is IQ genetic or acquired through learning? Social Darwinism – “survival of the fittest” – misinterpreted Darwin to mean “the better person” and that society works like the natural world works. - Did not want to use reproduction as meaning fittest . The poorer people reproduce more than the economically wealthy. - This theory created by the economically wealthy people. - Proposed that intelligence is hereditary. Eugenics - Hitler’s argument o In order to have our society continue to be successful and survive, we must protect it from the genetic influence from the inferior, unsuccessful people. o
