AGENCY’S LAW AND ETHICS2Agency’s Law and Ethics of Hiring a Diverse Workforce, Part 3Laws Affecting the AgencyThe US Small Business Association recommends that when employment opportunities come up and businesses need to hire employees and build teams around which to grow, compliance with a number of laws is paramount[USS16]. Among these laws are:Equal Employment OpportunityAffirmative ActionThe Equal Employment Opportunity has a reputation for being America’s first law enactedby the federal government to ensure protection for American workers as far as employmentdiscrimination is concerned[USS16]. EEOC guarantees that people are not discriminated againstbased on their color, religion, race, national origin, or even their sex. The EEOC came into effectin 1964 as public law number 88-352[USS16]. It is common knowledge that places of work andcompanies across the country were rife with instances of discrimination especially for blackpeople and other minorities prior to the enactment of the EEOC[USS16]. Thus, this is one of themost important laws that changed how businesses hire personnel; limiting eligibility foremployment to important aspects and factors about an individual’s candidature like experience,and academic qualification requirements needed for the said positon[GSA16]. Affirmative Action is the law or policy that promotes equity in employment to favordisadvantaged groups in the community and country who have previously suffered inemployment areas[Nie13]. Additionally, affirmative action ensures diversity is promoted at theworkplace, bridging inequality as far as salaries are concerned all aimed at correcting harms,wrongs, and hindrances from the past[Nie13]. The US small business association members have
AGENCY’S LAW AND ETHICS3to abide by this law too ensuring that both men and women have salaries that are not differentfrom each other based on gender. Personnel Recruitment and Hiring PracticesThe US Small Business Association encourages diversity initiatives by working towardsthe inclusion of the LGBT community in workplaces[Qui16]. Working with the NGLCC (the
