Functions of Human Resource Management 2 The primary function of human resource management (HRM) is to increase the effectiveness and contribution of employees attaining organizational goals and objectives. I will discuss human recourse (HR) planning, recruitment, and selection while explaining how the functions of HRM work together in order to optimize organizational and employee behavior. I will define human resources development and discuss how HR functions within a performance management system contribute to effective training and development. I will describe the prominent employment and labor laws and regulations while analyzing employment and labor laws and regulations that impact areas of HRM and the relationships between employees and employers. And finally, I will be defining the functions of performance management and compensation and benefits while explaining how an effective performance management system along with compensation and benefits can attract, develop, and retain talented employees. When beginning human resources planning, recruitment, and selection there are various things to think about in order to achieve company goals. First and foremost it is fundamental to precisely pinpoint factors that are crucial to the companies success. From that point on the company can then directly recruit potential employees that correspond to their nonnegotiable needs. While each company’s requirements may vary, there are primary questions that can help narrow down what exactly the job description will entail for applicants. Josh Tolan, CEO of Spark Hire, gives great examples of job description questions that aid in finding the perfect interviewee. Some of these questions include, “ What are the requirements?” and “How does this position fit within the organization?” Establishing exactly what the company needs in the future employee is crucial in order to maintain organization and time management within the hiring progression. Employers excel at reaching hiring goals when placing traits such as, “applicants character, credibility, competence, motivation, and cultural fit” (Muller & Baum,

These individualities “can lead to a better hire and spare the organization unnecessary time, recourses, and legal reputational costs.”(Muller&Baum, 2011) In order to determine whether or not the applicant is a good fit, individual differences and positive psychological capital are equally essential. Individual differences are a wide range of traits that are genetically and sociologically determined within the applicant. These traits are typically instilled through life experiences over time and can be seen when handling situations. “They can be also “hardwired” in the brain at an early age

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
