Guleeva Yulia 6 th semester, Faculty of Economics, University – Higher School of Economics Research proposal: “The development of potential and early-stage small entrepreneurship: the role of location (settlement)” Study purposes and objectives Assumptions (hypotheses) Research technology - description Expected results Analyzing the impact of the spatial distribution (settlement) on intensity and some other characteristics of entrepreneurial potential of population will be the main goal of this research. The main aims of this study are: comparative analysis of structure of potential and early entrepreneurs (socio- demographic, motivation) by different settlement types in Russia: dynamics of different subgroups of potential and early entrepreneurs in 2006- 2008 correlation between the amount and structure of the entrepreneurial potential in different types of settlements and the expectations of population concerning the entrepreneurial climate in their regions Novelty of this work would include the differentiation of some important issues of early entrepreneurship through by settlement types. GEM Russia APS data file for 2006-2008 was divided into five groups: villages (rural areas), small towns (population under 100 thousand), medium-sized towns from 100 to 500 thousand people, big cities and the special group containing only two cities – Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. The research structure is based on the GEM definition of entrepreneurship and its application to the analysis of entrepreneurship potential in Russia. We expect to find out some specific tendencies of entrepreneurship activity according to the settlement and to give informative interpretation of the results. early-stage entrepreneurs o nascent entrepreneurs (starting business, income less than 3 months) o new/baby business owners (income from 3 to 42 months) established business owners (functioning more than 42 months) It appears that entrepreneurship potential dynamics defines its growth possibilities, so the revelation of the factors activating this development may have an effect on the economic growth. Basing on the results of made experiments we can formulate a number of hypotheses : 1. Distinctions between the development of entrepreneurship activity according to size of settlement are statistically significant 2. The factors of entrepreneurship potential growth differ for small towns, big cities and villages 3. The factors of entrepreneurship activity development are various for potential and early- stage businessmen 4. Entrepreneurship activity depends on the structure of economically active population (on the ground of main social-demographic features) 5. The extent of entrepreneurship optimism in their estimation of expected business prospects effect on the growth of involvement in the entrepreneur potential
