At first look I believed that this poem, “Nothing in that Drawer” by Ron Padgett had no meaning. I simply saw it as a bunch of words repeated. I looked at the poem I had to read for the night and simply closed the book because the reading appeared to be so simple. However, after dissecting it in class I come to learn that each line has something different to say. The poem relies solely on the tone of your voice. If you were to say “nothing in that drawer” In mono-tone the poem would be very bland and boring. However, if you are to think of different situations that you have been in where “nothing in that drawer” makes sense. Such as a mother snooping through their children's dresser looking for something that they are hiding. Being frustrated yet relieved when nothing is found. Or a situation when you cannot find
