Unit 7 Assignment2As children, we hear the terminology that states we are adolescents. During our adolescent years, we go through a transition. This is a transition from childhood to adulthood. This is a time in everyone’s life where they can take the lessons they have learned during childhood, and use it to transition into an adult. There are many times that some of these children are unable to make this transition properly. There can be many reasons why this can happen. Many of the reasons are due to emotional and psychological issues during theirchildhood. I am going to use Erickson’s theory of psychosocial development and Marcia’s approach to identity development to assess Talia’s current struggle with her future. Let me first give you the basics about Talia. Talia is a 17-year-old biracial female. She is Caucasian/Asian and is a senior in high school. She currently lives with her younger brother and her mother. Financially, they are struggling. Her parents divorced when she was 4 and her father moved away. There has been infrequent contact with her father. She has learned little about her Asian background and feels like part of her identity is missing. This is because of the absence of her father throughout the years. Talia’s self-esteem has dropped due to struggling with developmental issues. Pressure is building over what she will do in the future, and she has troubles deciding. During her junior and senior year, she attended cosmetology, but has an interest in teaching or culinary arts school. First and foremost, we need to understand what area of her life is causing the most conflict. We can see from the basic information about Talia that she is conflicted in regard to her Asian heritage.
