Parenting Group
The group I have chosen is a thorough parenting group that is a family-centered trauma
informed initiative with the goal of teaching nurturing parenting skills to avoid abusive or
neglecting parenting or child-rearing practices. Being a parent is rewarding and young/teen
parents at times are less responsible or have more difficult time at knowing how to be a nurturing
parent. It is easy for a new parent to be overwhelmed and parenting group sessions can help the
parent through the difficult time or with behavioral concerns. The reason I have chosen a
parenting group is because I have the training and education in this area as well as I currently
perform this type of group in my career. The population I will be serving during this parenting
group are teen/young parents and their families that are at risk or involved with Oklahoma
Juvenile Affairs (OJA) and Department of Human Services (DHS). The group will consist of 5-6
families at a time. The goal of this group will be to help these young parents learn the skills to be
