Christopher Hunter Mr. Sieker Engl. 1519-1110 13 December 2018 A Blessing and a Curse The Benefits and Detriments of Gifts in Shakespeare’s  Hamlet Gifts generally carry a positive connotation associated with the benefits they are intended to provide. In literature, characters are given literal or figurative gifts of which they use to  surmount challenges or achieve their goals; however, while a character’s gift is a boon in one  aspect it can be a hindrance in another. A classic example of the binary nature of gifts is  demonstrated by the titular character of Shakespeare’s tragedy  Hamlet . In  Hamlet , Shakespeare  portrays Hamlet’s intelligence as a benefit and detriment to comment on how certain gifts come  at a costly price. At first, Hamlet’s intelligence is kept beneath the surface due to mourning the death of  his father, the former king of Denmark. It is only after King Hamlet returns as a ghost

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
