Natalie Romick Dakota O’Leary Nick Beculheimer Jonathan Graham AP bio lab (transpiration) Purpose : The purpose of this lab is to determine whether the rate of transpiration - a key process in a plant’s function that involves the release of water as it continues to maintain homeostasis - is affected by its exposure to light, a key element in its functioning. Hypothesis : Transpiration will be slower or less effective when plants are exposed to less light, as the lower rate of light exposure would supposedly slow down all of the processes in the plant as a key component that it needs to function (sunlight) is now limited. Materials : - 1 bean plant - 1 ivy plant (both plants being roughly the same size) - vaseline - saran wrap - small and narrow glass beakers, filled with water Procedure/ Experiment : Each plant is to be derooted from its initial habitat (being their pots) and placed into small, thin beakers and filled with the same amount of water.
