Part 2 1. What are the three main purposes for writing? For which purpose do you normally write, or do you write for some other reason? A writer usually writes for one of three reasons: to inform about something, to persuade someone in favor of something, or to entertain. There are different purposes of writing; When a writer writes to inform she is trying to give the reader background information, an overview of facts, an understanding of a situation, a review of data or research or statistics, an extended definition, an explanation of how something works, or a report about the status of a situation. 2. What are voice markers, and why are they important? When we have to indicate to our readers that the material in our summary comes from another source and is not of our own invention. We do this by using voice markers. 3. When and why would you summarize a source? Paraphrase it? Quote it? We summarize a source when we have to briefly present the key points of that source in order to provide context for the arguments. We paraphrase any source when we want to simplify the
