[Last Name] 1 Willow Kentzel & Kaylyn Freeman Dr. Kevin Lee Biology 453 January 17, 2019 Case Study #2 Part 2 1. Completed chart 2. When red blood cells are identified as a normal shape, it maximizes the surface area which allows it to carry a sufficient amount of oxygen and allows the oxygen and carbon dioxide to diffuse across more efficiently. The normal shape also allows for the red blood cell to navigate through narrow vessels and enter the smallest capillaries within the body. In Tazswana sample this abnormal shape can be causing less oxygen to be carried throughout her body causing some of her symptoms, this shape can also cause abnormal binding with oxygen. When red blood cells are shaped abnormally, they will not be capable of carrying the proper amount of oxygen and cause other malfunctions within the blood. For example, the spleen being overworked and enlarged. Part 3 a. Tazswana has an extra band because her mRNA is altered making it larger in size and the larger RNA molecules with rise higher to the top. Part of the non-coding information has become a part of the coding protein.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
