At the end of the civil war the United States were united last, and there were many more voices that started surfacing in America’s literature. During the time of the civil war, many people were either reading or writing about the war. There was no longer slavery, and literature could now be combine between the south and the north. There were many identities coming out as a unified front in literature, art and music industry. There were many authors that rose upand impacted the way literature was seen. Thought poems or books, a window was open for theunderstanding of different cultures, and their struggle to make an impact in America. For the first time in the United States, people understood that America was going to be made with different cultures and identities, and that was going to make America greater than it was before.During the war, many writers started addressing the issue of slavery. Many questioned if it was an ethical issue or not, and many took a side by writing about it. The effects of the war also helped increase realism, this destroyed romantic novels, and anything related to sentimentalism. People were seeking writers that gave them ideal visions of society and stayed away from fiction. Because of this, we now have a good idea of what it was like for the people
Tarango 2who lived during the war. During this time we also see some women writing and publishing theirwork. The civil war was full of devastation, but it set the path for literature to make way and made an impact for what literature is today. The United States is formed of many different cultures and there is so much diversity, making American special and different than other countries. When we put together all of our different identities, cultures, beliefs in politics and religion, we make up the American identity.
