Anions Prelab 1) The anions will be categorized for their behavior with respect to three chemical properties: volatility, redox potential, and solubility. Volatility will be observed by the formation (or lack- thereof) of a gas when undergoing a reaction, redox potential is the ability of the anion to undergo oxidation or reduction, and solubility is determined by the formation of a precipitate when the anion is mixed with an aqueous cation. 2) i. Aqueous silver nitrate will be mixed with anions and a precipitate will form if the test is positive. ii. Separate aqueous solutions of calcium and barium cations will be mixed with ammonia and each anion to determine whether one, both, or neither of these cations forms a precipitate with the anion. Precipitate formation indicates a positive result. iii. Aqueous potassium permanganate will be acidified and added to each anion and tested for any observable reaction. If no visible reaction occurs, heat will be added and once again observed for any visible reaction. Any visible reaction indicates a positive result.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
