Reflection Essay2This course shone light on diversity. The activity presented allowed me a chance to obtainideas on teaching diversity in my classroom in a different way. Many points were highlighted in this course, causing me to have questions. These questions caused me to look deeper into the subject of diversity and provided me a desire to learn more. Our school setting is derived of different races, cultures, bias and preconceived judgements. The course gave me great pointers on teaching diversity. I now feel that I can approach my students with a better understanding of how we can become more accepting of different races, cultures, and refrain from hasty judgements. In module two of the diversity log, the questions that were chosen (see Appendix) were derived from my personal teaching experience. With clearer eyes, I focused on how judgement related to the ESL students. The questions addressed derived from areas that I felt could be improved. These improvements could make my students have a positive perspective of becomingmore acceptable of their classmates and other people in their everyday lives. I chose questions for module three (see Appendix) based on what I considered to be my area of expertise and strengths. I focused on socioeconomic status, hispanic population, and differences in language as they relate to learning. There is a growing presence of students from low income families and non English speaking students in my school. These questions were veryimportant to me, as they relate to my classroom. Finally in module four, the questions I chose for consideration were ones I felt touched on my techniques. These techniques far reach race and culture. These are areas I feel are important to my areas of expertise. I focused on immediate reading at my school. This module allowed me to address the challenges that my students face daily. I also pointed out some of the needs and programs to help resolve these needs that could be used in my school system.
Reflection Essay3My research in module two helped me understand the aspects in the Common Beliefs survey and helped me understand how to relate to different cultures. It really opened my eyes to how this Teachers should strive to make learning meaningful for students. This gave me a differentoutlook on how students adapt to various lived experiences. Getting to know my students on a more personal level has also helped me improve my relationships in the classroom and at home. Dr. Sonia Nieto shined a light on the characteristics of multicultural education in a video file earlier in this course. This was inclusive of anti-bias, for all children and critical pedagogy (Laureate Education, 2015). Teachers need to embrace and teach the benefits of diversity. This should be done in a positive manner so that students can learn to accept each other while developing positive relationships. It also encourages positive social change as promoted by
