The selected case study 6.3 Diverse Friends Dayis a study that has many aspects that anyeducator may be challenged within their career (Gorsky & Pothini, 2018). Mr. Carbondale was excited to see an increase with the diverse population at his school. He was excited to implement the Diverse Friends Day in which students would interact with other classmates. His hopes were for students to go beyond their natural cliques and for new friendships across the different races. While some students were excited, other students did not want to participate. After noticing threechildren, two African American students, Pam and Tariq, and one Mexican American student, Julio, had remained quiet. He talked to them privately to understand their perspective. The students explained views such as the day is considered racist, they do not want to participate, andone excited student felt discouraged due to students of a different race calling him names. While Mr. Carbondale was trying to do his best to help students make new friends outsidetheir comfort zone, he soon found out that Diverse Friends Day could be taken as a negative thought. Some students were excited to learn about other students and were happy for the opportunity from the event. There were students that did not want to participate in the event. There are many different reasons students may not want to participate such as shy personalities,
