Chapter 8, 9, & 10 review 1. The three kinds of supporting materials for your speech are Examples, Statistics, and Testimony. Examples are a specific case used to illustrate a group of people, ideas, conditions or experiences. There are several types of examples such as Brief examples which is a specific case referred to in passage to illustrate a point Extended Examples which is a story, narrative, or anecdote Hypothetical Example which describes an imaginary situation. Statistics are numerical data that is used to strengthen the speakers points Testimony which is a quotation or paraphrase used to support a point. There is several kinds of testimony. Expert Testimony which is testimony from someone that is recognized as an expert in their field. Peer Testimony which is ordinary people with firsthand experience or insight on a topic. Direct quotation which is testimony that is presented word for word.
