Chapter 17: Bhakti-margaThe goal of this chapter is to describe the third path (marga) towards release and liberation inHinduism; Bhakti-marga. Bhakti-marga is a path of devotion that leads one’ to love for apersonal God. According to Nadeau, Bhakti-marga is known to be the easiest path as it involvestrusting God through “ego-denying acts of worship and devotion” that occur in a temple.Importantly, the elements of worship service (puja) and “Brahman” are discussed. Specifically,Nadeau states that according to Hindus, deities worshipped in Hindu temples are in fact a divinemanifestation of the one great soul, Brahman. As such, Nadeau concludes that despite themany worshipped deities, Hinduism is still a monotheistic religion.To explain Hindu worship practices, it is emphasized that Hindus commonly choose one godwho is especially cherished or favored.
