Chapter 25 - Reflection and Mirrors 25.1 WAVEFRONTS AND RAYS Wave fronts are usually the crest or condensations of a wave. 25.2 THE REFLECTION OF LIGHT A. Law of reflection 1. Angle of incidence equals angle of reflection when measured from the normal 2. Definitions a. normal - imaginary line perpendicular to a reflective surface b. specular reflection - parallel light rays reflected off a smooth surface (like a mirror) c. diffused reflection - scattering of reflected light from a rough surface 3. Specular and diffused reflection both obey the law of reflection. a. Specular reflection b. Diffused reflection
Diffuse reflection is the reflection of light or other waves or particles from a surface such that a ray incident on the surface is scattered at many angles rather than at just one angle as in the case of specular reflection . 29.3 FORMATION OF IMAGES FROM PLANE MIRRORS A. The virtual image for a flat mirror (perpendicular to the floor) appears the same distance behind as the object in front. It also appears the same size.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
