Peters 1 Stephanie Peters Professor Sonnenfeld ENC 1101 24 September 2018 The American Dream The American Dream is the set of ideals inhabited by the citizens of the United States for centuries. Defined as a “dream of land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man, with opportunity for each according to his ability or achievement” by James Truslow Adams (who coined the concept), the American Dream has undergone many transformations as generations changed it to fit in their societal ethos. The American Dream, he continues, is “a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and recognized by others for what they are.” The American Dream of today embodies opportunity, the belief that anybody can attain their interpretation of success.
