I chose William Shakespeare because I believe he was one of the best British writer of all time. Almost four hundred years after his death, William Shakespeare’s work continues to live on through his readers. Shakespeare put virtually indescribable feelings into beautiful words that fit the specific form of the sonnet. He wrote 154 sonnets and I think that Shakespeare’s sonnets are considered to be among the most romantic poems even written. I chose his “Sonnet 18” because I believe it basically explains why the object of his affection is not comparable to a summer’s day, it revolves around the idea that his beloved is indeed everlastingly beautiful. In lines 2 through 4 “Thou art more lovely and more temperate: rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, and summer’s lease hath all too short a date” he could not compare thee to a summer’s day because a summer’s day is often too hot and too windy, and especially because a summer’s day does not last.
