Module 3.1 Ayn Rand’s Ethics of Emergency Ayn Rand is a controversial writer which strongly supports Objectivism as a primary philosophy. In this essay, i will discuss her ideas and their relations to today’s moral environment. According to her essay from her book The Virtue of Selfishness: A New Concept of Egoism, she claims to have total rejection of altruism. Based on the text, she supports her own theory of Objectivism because it supports the pursue of own self-interest in helping ourselves and those we care about. In addition, she also states that if one accepts the ethics of altruism, then he or she would have lack of self esteem, lack of respect for others, a nightmare view on existance, a lethargic indifference to ethnics with cynical amorality. According to Ayn Rand’s reason for lack of self esteem, “Since his first concern in the realm of values is not how to live his life, but how to sacrifice it“. In my opinion, i do not agree to this to a large extent. If one accepts the ethics of altruism, it does not mean that he will be lacking self esteem. For example, if a man sees a stranger shouting for help while drowning in a river nearby, he may endanger his life by jumping in to save the other man. This action may not be because of self esteem issues, but it may be out of goodwill and sympathy. Another real life example, I was
