1 Jerez Amsyar 2390191 BSAB412 (Airport Planning and Design) Module 4 Research Paper - Dangerous Airports Recently, a study was conducted to determine the most dangerous airports in the United States. The top five are: 1. Chicago O’Hare – unsafe runway configurations 2. Cleveland Hopkins - runway too short for rain and snow landings 3. Los Angeles – several in-flight near misses during landing 4. San Francisco – crossing runway encroachments, fog and weather incidents 5. Honolulu – unsafe taxiways and poor runway lighting What happened? Planners worked very hard on these airports but still incurred major problems.
2 For this activity, research your book and airport layout plans to determine other airside factors (besides runways) which must be considered in designing an airport. Present a 1 - 2 page paper outlining and then discussing at least five (5) other factors a planner must use in developing the airside portion of an airport. Use specific examples whenever possible.
