Luke Lillywhite Period 5 There are a few debates that have occurred lately which brings up the concern of global warming, overpopulation, and droughts across America. These topics are directly related to each other, but we will only go over one outcome of this problem. Water crisis. This essay will go over how there is an exponential decline in the water supply and the crisis that is causing. The example used today is the Colorado river. This river is the main supply to both Lake Powell and Lake Mead. The river travels from Colorado down into Utah and Arizona where it reaches Lake Powell, then it goes further south east until it reaches Lake Mead. Lake Mead is located next to the highly populated city, Las Vegas. Las Vegas, as well as other cities located near the lake, rely on Lake Mead as their number one supply of water. Up north from the dependant lake is Lake Powell. This is one of the most visited lakes in America with about “2 million people visiting every year.” (Wikipedia) The Colorado river supplies to two very heavily populated areas that rely on it. The problem is, there has been a severe drought. The problem has been introduced, there is a drought occuring in the Colorado river which has been affecting lives severely. There two main factors that are causing this: population growth and global warming. These problems are addressed and put into consideration when finding a solution to it all. When finding a solution to Lake Mead, the lake that “supplies 90% of its water to the city” (Telegraph) discovers a 50 ft decrease in height. As cities in New Mexico and Nevada experience a population growth of 70%, the river remains the same size. The lake
