event such as a flood, earthquake, or hurricane occurs, and it causes extramental damage or
severe loss of life. When they happen, people often must make sudden changes, sometimes
extreme decisions. Should the people evacuate and leave behind their possessions and home?
Should the people stay and endure the storm? If they choose to stay, why did they make that
decision? Would leaving their homes have offered them a better chance of survival in the future?
An example of a few of these questions were answered in the article “Starting Over”, by

argument in the article also demonstrates that people had better a better life after leaving New
Orleans. Following the article as an example of the choices people must make after a natural
disaster is the film, Babushkas of Chernobyl, directed by Holly Morris and Anne Bogart. In this
film, the people are forced to evacuate their homes after an explosion of a radiation plant in
Russia. They were told that the evacuation would be temporary and that they would be able to

Babushkas originally left their homes after the explosion but deemed that life away from home
