Orpheus 05/12/2007 09:46:00 Orpheus The Underworld OUTLINE Geography of Hades Special Guests of Hades A. Affronts to male gods  Tantalos  Salmoneus and Sisyphus B. Affronts to goddesses Ixion Tityos Orpheus and Eurydice Geography of Hades After Hermes conducts dead souls to the river Styx, Charon ferries them across  the river to the entrance to Hades. This entrance is guarded by Cerberus, the three- headed dog.  Rhadamanthys, one of the three sons of Europa, judges the dead, determining  the extent of their crimes, if any.  In some variants he is joined by Minos, another son of  Europa, and Aiakos.   The Fury Tisiphone guards the entrance to Tartaros, which is where those who  really crossed Zeus wind up.  Also located in Hades are the Elysian Fields, a.k.a  Elysium or the Isles of the Blessed, for the heroic dead, like Anchises, who slept with  Aphrodite and was Aeneas’ father.  Special Guests of Hades Other visitors to Hades
