Saperston 2 Holden might not realize how much he truly appreciates that Spencer wanted to him, he later reflected on how Mr. Spencer and his wife were “always giving [people] hot chocolate and all that stuff, and [the Spencers] were really pretty nice” (Salinger 185). Therefore, at this point in the novel, Holden recognizes that Mr. Spencer was a pretty nice guy who might have been a phony at some points, but truly and ultimately just wanted to help Holden because he cared for him as a person and student. 2.What does Ackley mean or represent to Holden?
