SPACE CASE STUDY 2 Space Case Study Space Age Furniture Company is manufactures stands to hold microwaves and televisions. Space Age uses batch production process of production. Batch production is a technique that many manufactures use in which an object is manufactured in stages over a series of different stations.” The shift from conventional mass production to batch production has accelerated in recent years. In response to continuously varying customer requirements, products are being manufactured in small batches, each with custom features” (Agrawal, Minis, & Nagi,2000, p.1). Space Age Company produces Saturn stand and Gemini stand. They need part # 3079 and they use this part in two different subassemblies. Part 257 for the Saturn microwave and part. 435 for the Gemini TV stand. In this paper suggestions for Space Age furniture to help enhance the MRP will be analyzed in order to help the company maintain their long withstanding reputation in their industry. Reputation is what keeps a business going if they lose that the lost revenue. When looking at the MRP for Space Age you first have to look at in regard to their inventory. “Inventory can also be classified according to the type of demand it intends to serve” (Vonderembse, & White,2013, sect.9.5). Material requirement planning is a way companies use to decrease the inventory by planning so the schedules that the company has for their production is completed and if this is done, they are able to keep their inventory at a minimum and their cost. Sticking to their schedule the company will be able make their customers happy by delivering their products on time. JIT has had an impact but in a narrower range of applications than many thought— essentially manufacturing systems that are capable of self-regulation” (MacCarthy,2000). In order for this company to try and control their MRP and their inventory flow it has to consider how the parts, machine and labor can be calculated to help the company to save money and keep their employees motivated and happy as well as their customers.
