He was the youngestof 7 children. Guston’s father and mother moved their family to America to seek shelter frompersecution but quickly realized that life was difficult in their new country. Guston’s fatherstruggled to find work and eventually became deeply depressed and committed suicide byhanging himself. Sadly, Guston found his father’s body; this experience ended up having aprofound influence in his life. Guston then got interested in comics and in drawing; this lead hismother to enroll him at the Cleveland School of Cartooning, which began his career as an artist.
