Nigeria can be found in the West Africa region of the Sub-Sharan African Realm. The sub-Saharan African realm features snow-capped volcanoes and deeply eroded plateaus. Africa is home to one of two clusters of great lakes in the worlds which lie in rift valleys. Africa can be described as a plateau continent. Nigeria holds much importance to Africa. Nigeria is home to about 187 million people in total, which is the highest population of any African country. Within the West African region, more people live in Nigeria than all of the other countries in the region combined to provide some more perspective of how densely populated it is. In 2014, Nigeria surpassed South Africa to become the largest economy in the realm. Although, Nigeria continues to face its own internal conflicts as well as external. English is the official language of Nigeria, though its mostly widely spoken in the urban parts of Nigeria and less so much so in the rural regions due to colonization. English was first introduced to Nigeria by the British colonial rule. English is used for all forms of formal communication within the government including the drafting of legislations and in the judicial system. It is also what is spoken to students by teachers in their schools. Roughly 79 million people in Nigeria speak English but it is unique in the fact that it is Nigerian English, which is less composed of American English and more composed of British English, with many phrases and words that are specific to Nigerian English. Hausa is another language spoken in Nigeria and it is a regional language. It has about 30 million native speakers and 20 million who speak it as their second language and is one of the largest in West Africa. It is a West Chadic language under a larger Chadic group of the Afro-Asiatic language family. Dauranchi and Kananci are recognized as the standard dialect of the language. It has moved from using the Arabic alphabet
