These appraisalsmust be carefully created with the most important competencies to assess an employee’s workethics and performance of essential job tasks. Performance appraisals are important for manyreasons revolving around the current employees, potential employees, and business functions.The appraisal assessment can be performed and completed at any time. Performance appraisalsare a function of management that must be completed effectively and carefully in order to helpemployees achieve organizational goals without discriminating the employee. Function of ManagementPerformance appraisals are performed by management at the request of the humanresources department. According to Youssef-Morgan (2015), performance appraisals are definedas “the process through which employee performance is assessed, feedback is provided to theemployee, and corrective action plans are designed” (Section 6.2). This process requires amanager to perform the evaluation, so the correct feedback is provided, and a plan is set in placefor the employee to help achieve organizational goals. Tracking the results of each evaluationperiod for the employee gives the manager and human resource department the necessaryinformation to efficiently decide if the employee should be given a raise, promotion, demotion,or another action taken against them (Youssef-Morgan, 2015). Performance appraisals areimportant for employees to succeed in their career advancement goals and the organization tounderstand how the goals and objectives are being met efficiently.
