2CONSULTATIVE CHANGE RECOMMENDATIONSConsultative Change RecommendationsMarriotti stated, “The only sustainable competitive advantage today is the ability to change, adapt, and evolve-doing better than the competition.” (Al-Abri, 2007, para 4). Health care practices have to change daily to meet the needs of managing and caring for patients with disease processes. In order for health care organization to deliver the highest quality of health care practices, there must be a learning process to overcome obstacles, develop tests, and implement changes that are essential for improvement. Technology is continually improving processes for health care organizations and providers, to deliver the most up-to-date evidence-based practice (EBP), for disease management.Purpose of Consultation and Overview of the Consultation ProcessThe purpose of the interview with Carla Waterson, Nurse Manager of the Outpatient Specialty Clinics, at the Veterans Health Care of the Ozarks (VHSO), is to understand her role within VHSO. Carla has been a nurse at the VHSO for 30 years (C. Waterson, personal communication, January 15, 2019). In the past, Carla managed inpatient and outpatient services provided at the facility. Currently, Carla manages all the specialty clinics located at the VHSO, providing over 50 different services to veterans (C. Waterson, personal communication, January 15, 2019). The interview summarizes Carla’s role with the VHSO as a collaborator with colleagues and peers, to provide safe, high-quality healthcare to veterans. Carla seeks and addresses needs for improvement while building an atmosphere of trust and empowerment for staff. Information was collected during the interview, by a 45-minute face-to-face meeting with Carla, and researching the VHSO and Veterans Health Administration (VHA) websites. The VHSO is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas and serves Veterans living and visiting the 23 counties around Northwest Arkansas. The Veterans Health Care of the Ozarks is a part of the most extensive, integrated health care system in the United States (U.S.). The VHA provides care at 1,250 health care facilities, including VA Medical Centers and 1,069 outpatient sites. Over nine million Veterans are enrolled and receive health care at the VA health care programs. The VHA employs more than 306,000, full-time health careprofessionals and support staff, at more than 1,243 health care facilities across the nation. The
