CREATION ACCOUNT: GENESIS 1-2Genesis 1-2 consists of the creation of the Universe and the beginnings of humanity, as told through a Christian worldview: God was the one who made all from nothing. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1).”Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7).“Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” (Genesis 2:22)
CREATION ACCOUNT: GENESIS 1-2 (CONT’D)Through the course of six days of work, God was able to create the earth, heavens and universe from nothing. In day one, the times of day were made (morning, night, evening). Day two produced the sky. Day three produced land, seas and vegetation. Day four produced the sun and the moon. Day five produced living creatures for the seas and land. Day six produced Adam. On the seventh day, God rested and appreciated his work. (Genesis 1:1-31)This lead to the seventh day becoming holy, as God rested and looked back at all of the work he’d done. (Genesis 1:31)This view of how the universe was created is called The Young Earth View, in which the Universe was created in six days. This view is among two other theories: The Old Earth View and The Theistic Evolution View. (Lecture 2, 2017).
CREATION ACCOUNT: GENESIS 1-2 (CONT’D 2)As well as a view of the creation of the Universe, Genesis 1-2 also instills the importance of the seventh day of the week, the holy day. “Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” (Genesis 2:3).In Genesis 1-2, work is made for mankind as well, this description explains that humanity makes work for itself and has dominion over the earth and its creatures. “The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” (Genesis 2:15).
CREATION ACCOUNT: GENESIS 1-2 (ADAM AND EVE)At the end of the first two chapters of Genesis, God creates Eve from Adam and explains the meaning of their relationship and instills the definition of holy matrimony; sequentially, Genesis 1-2 explains the origin of mankind and how we are created in God’s image.
