ME 3124 Thermodynamics FaII2007 -Exan#2 l. (40 points) Air as an ideal gas is compressed from State I where the pressure is 0.lMPa and the temperatwe is 300K to State 2 where the pressure is 0.45MPa and 480K. Kinetic and potential energy effects are negligible. a) Deterrrine the change in specific entropy, /s, of the process in (kJ/kg-K). (5 points) b) For an adiabatic process, calculate the enfopy production per unit mass of air , o/m,in (kJ&g-K). Is this process possible? Explain. (5 points) c) For an adiabatic process, calculate the work per unit mass of air in (kJ/kg). (5 points) d) Determine the final temperature if this process were isentopic (K). (5 points) e) For an isentopic process, calculate the work per unit mass of air in (kJ/kg). (5 points) f) Draw a T-s diagram showing the adiabatic process in Parts (a)-(c) and the isentopic process in Parts (d) and (e). (10 points) g) Is an adiabatic process possible if State 2has atemperatwe of 480K and pressure of 1.0 MPa? Explain.
