Write Up The novel I chose to use as a read aloud is called “Kira-Kira” a young adult novel written by Cynthia Kadohata which won the Newbery Medal for children’s literature back in 2005. The story follows the experiences of the main character Katie Takeshima, a young girl from a Japanese-American family that moves to Georgia after the family business in Iowa went bankrupt.
