BIO-220 Final ReportPrescribed fires have proven to be one of the most effective means of brush or wild fireprevention.The land management method of prescribed fires, or controlled burns, has been atopic of debate by environmentalists for years.By definition, prescribed fires are intentionallyignited and managed to allow a slow burn of an area as a method of land management.It isbelieved to create land that is more resilient to wildfires.It is most noted to be done in forestshowever use of this means of land management is also done in prairies, deserts and wetlands(Tall Grass Restoration, LLC, 2018).The use of controlled fires has made a positive impact for land owners in areas prone tobrush and wildfires, particularly in the dryer regions.Human caused fires that igniteunintentionally pose a great risk to land owners which is more incentive to perform these burnswhen they have the tools to keep it maintained.These prescribed fires are also said to reduce theoccurrences of larger more catastrophic wild fires that spark spontaneously.The fire helpsmanage weeds as well as other growth.Controlled burns aid in the restoration of nutrients andhelp lead to better plant growth in the future.
