EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION Childhood Obesity Obesity is a major problem that can affect anyone. It is primarily caused by too much intake of fats or carbohydrate ridden foods (Stern & Kazaks, 2009). Children may suffer from obesity either genetically or through the consumption of foods rich in excess carbohydrates and fats. Obesity can really come out with some major health problems. Hence it is often undesirable. Besides the health issues, obesity can really present a problem in terms of teaching in the typical classroom environment . This is more so during early childhood development in the kindergarten stage. According to Estes & Krogh, (2012), play forms an important part of early childhood development. Children learn through exploring parts of the environment and correlating them to each other. One of the premises of Froebel’s kindergarten was for children to learn through play. An obese child may lack in the play aspect of the kindergarten life
