The course will include a historical overview of the development of aviation and will survey various aspects of the airline industry such as regulation, the organization and management of aviation businesses (particularly airlines), airline marketing, airfreight and modes of competition in the airline and aircraft industry.PREREQUISITE: ECON 102COURSE OBJECTIVES To introduce the student to the aviation business, its characteristics and development. To provide a competent understanding of various segments of the aviation business and become familiar with local, national and international aviation regulations. Topics include: An overview of the aviation industry; a historical perspective;regulations governing aviation; the airlines; general aviation; economics of aviation; management and organization; air cargo; principles of scheduling; fleet planning; labor relations; international aviation.LEARNING OUTCOMESIdentify the major components that make up the aviation business.Examine the development of aviation.Predict economic impact of the aviation business on the U.S. and global economies.Demonstrate an understanding of the regulations governing aviation.Calculate the economic effect of labor relations on airline operations.Illustrate the role general aviation plays in the aviation business.Compose a presentation detailing the survey of an aviation company.Interpret data from a variety of sources in the aviation business and articulate the economic impact on the aviation business in terms of profit or loss.1
