PKG 315 – Packaging Decision Systems Fall Semester 2018 Homework Assignment: HW-LCA (25 Points total) Due Date: D2L Dropbox on Monday, November 26, 2018, by 5pm Introduction: One of the key drivers in packaging is sustainability and more specifically how a whole packaging system impacts the environment. From obvious examples such as the material used for the primary packaging to more subtle parts such as a tamper evident seal. Each component has a different impact which needs to be accounted for. Requirements: For this assignment, you will be evaluating the life cycle of the product you were given in lab at the beginning of the semester. You will use CAPE to find out a solution for the secondary and tertiary packaging as well as the truck, then use the CAPE report to determine the inputs you need for PackageSmart. For the PackageSmart project, you will need to start with following options: -Impact Assessment Method: Packaging Impacts -Normalization/Weighting: World ReCiPe H/A -End of Life (EOL) Scenario: Waste scenario Packaging waste scenario 2010/US US-EI S -Check all primary, secondary and tertiary packaging for cube utilization usage.
