Organizational Leadership C158 Introduction: Hospitals survive on patients coming back in and recommending the hospital to their friends and families. Knowing how well the organization takes care of the patient and the family is what makes a leader efficient and able to go above and beyond for their patients. Interprofessional teams play a large part in the running of hospitals and keeping the hospitals in compliance with federal and state laws. They also can focus on ways to improv patient satisfaction through patient centered care. A. For this project, I will focus on the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Florence, South Carolina. One business practice for Encompass health is to make patient centered care a priority for their hospitals. To do this, they focus on encouraging patients to make their own choices about their healthcare from the moment they arrive until they are discharge. There are many policies and procedures to support patient centered care that can be found on their website, the home page of the hospital. These policies and procedures guide safe patient care and maintain patient satisfaction. Encompass has been a top 10 hospital for rehabilitation for 5 years running.[Enc18] Their mission statement is to exceed patient expectations every time. It was also ranked as Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.” [Enc18]They have requirements like full body assessments upon admission and patient friendly rounding to ensure that the best patient care is being given always. Regulatory requirements are needed to ensure a patient centered care environment. At Encompass Health they require everyone to make patient centered care a gold standard there. They are focused on maintaining patient safety always, striving for patient complete satisfaction,

Even though participation in the Joint commission is on a voluntary basis Medicare, Private insurance, and Medicaid will not reimburse if a hospital fails to meet the standards. In addition, the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services use a value-based purchasing system that gives more or reduces amounts paid based on the standards and quality of care provided to the patients in a hospital. [Lav18]If a hospital fails at this, they can be denied reimbursement by Medicare in the event of a hospital acquired infection or other issue that a patient did not have upon admission to that hospital. Therefore, full body inspections upon admission are vital for any health care facility. These standards and pay scales help keep hospitals more willing to be following the health care standards set forth by the Joint Commission and the government. States
