This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

Creating a process map is done to assess and improve healthcare quality by outlining each step in the process, and all those involved so that issues can be identified and changes can be implemented (Abubakker, 2012; NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, 2010). Providing higher quality patient care is the driving force for using process maps so that problems can be fixed and improvements made (Cookson, Read, Mukherjee, & Cooke, 2011; NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, 2010). Process Mapping Facilitates Quality Assessment and Improvement Process mapping creates team building, as staff become involved in identifying the current steps as well as walk through the potential changes, while each team member takes ownership in their part of the process (NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, 2010). Having a process map completed prior to making any changes to the current workflow, helps to eliminate any ambiguous ideas and deals with the facts (NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, 2010).
