By dictionary definition a fad is a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct etc., especially one followed enthusiastically by a group. Over the past couple years a new form of exercise has developed. This new workout incorporates power lifting with cardio vascular training all in one, and is known as cross fit training. Cross fit grew very quickly and is practiced all over the world. While many people say that cross fit training is beneficial, I find that even though it may be a high calorie burning workout, it could be detrimental; thus allowing us to see that some fads aren’t always meant to last. One standard of cross fit is that you push yourself to your limit for each lift. Pushing yourself to the limit for cross fit means you: lift until you can’t anymore, lift as may times as possible for a set amount of time, or lift for a very high amount of repetitions. Although, this idea seems like a beneficial way to gain strength, with the amount of repetitions it takes to wear yourself out, it ends up hurting you more thanhelping. The lifts that make up cross fit are Olympic style power lifting, and as Erin Simmons points out power lifts are very technique-oriented, and are meant to be explosive and powerful over very short times with plenty of rest.
