Guided Analysis: Suffering Question 2: What is the problem of evil and suffering? Many people ask the question “If God is so good and powerful, why does he let evil into this world?” God did not create the world with evil in it. It was our own doing in the garden of Eden that we have evil today. Our desire to be apart from God is why God allows suffering and evil in the world today. God gives everyone free will to make their own decisions and that is why we have evil in the world today. However although evil may seem like a bad thing, God allows evil and suffering to happen to draw people closer to them. There are many reasons that God allows evil to happen to people but the main reason is to show God’s glory through suffering and evil ( CWV-101 Lecture 6). Question 3: Christians believe that every individual is, “born into a broken world where suffering is a reality that affects every person”(Wisdom, 2). The reason why suffering exists is because people are letting it exist. In the textbook, it talks about people choosing to step away from God’s own protection, love, and wisdom and take their own path to decide what is best for them. This all ties back to the creation of Adam and Eve because God gave them free will and at that point is where evil existed. Whether to obey God or do what we please. Although we are aware of the evil around us, suffering can lead us closer to God. Question 5: According to chapter 7 in the textbook, evil and suffering can lead someone to think that moral absolutes exist because of all the bad things that can happen. For example, stealing is never a good thing and it is something that God said one should never do. But some people think that it is fine to steal and then give it to those who are less fortunate. Now in a sense many people may think that it is right and kind for the person to give to those who don’t have but in the actual reality it is very bad on that person’s part on what just took place. Thinking that there is some sort of good that can come out of evil and suffering is just wrong and that could lead people to think that moral absolutes exist. Question 1 : One time where I experienced the greatest amount of suffering is when I was 13 years old and I broke my arm. On winter break of my seventh grade year, I was snowboarding in my backyard. I went off a jump too fast and started flying head first. I braced my fall with my
