How do the different social classes interact with other social classes as well as with those within their own social class? What role does Vatel play? How does Louis XIV exercise his power? Give specific examples from the film . The movie “Vatel” takes place in 1671. Around this time, Prince Conde of France wants commission as a general as he was going bankrupt. He invited King Louis XIV over for a weekend of festivities and extravaganza planned by his stewardess, Vatel. This movie gives a little bit of everyone’s lifestyle in the 17 th century. The peasants made all the food for the King and his nobles. They dressed in cheap cloth and some even walked around shirtless. They ate all together somewhere near the kitchen. They were all nice to each other, laughed often mocking the lifestyle of the elite and respected the class higher than them: nobles, merchants and the King. The
