Sarah Joni FRE 2710 Exam 1 Exam 1 1a. After the Romans took over the Gaul, they were quick to reform their culture. For one, the Romans influenced Gaul by increasing the size of its empire. They brought in taxes, markets, officials, solders, even literacy. Being that Gaul was pretty much an independent area with no rules or regulations, the Romans also influenced their religion. The Gallic people were to worship emperors. The romans also included new architect in Gaul that wasn’t there before, by mimicking the buildings that were standing tall in Rome. There were now many theaters, amphitheatres, circuses and even Odeon’s. Gaul had adopted public baths that were seen in Rome, and even cecum a growing economy being that there was a low tax rate. Another contribution to Gaul by the Romans were the new cities striving in the area. After being conquered, Gaul was divided into area: north and south-west. Among these cities were Aquitania, Belgeria, Lugdunensis (Lyon). The cities were built depending on the setting and what was near the area, such as where the roads were. This was a part of the Romanization under Julius Caesar in order to expand the Roman culture and behavior. 1b. Charlemagne is known as one of the founding fathers of Europe. After taking the throne, he secured his empires politics and culture. For one, he brought all his people under one religion. He succeeded in this by basically forcing people into Christianity. If one did not practice the religion or was caught practicing other religions, they were put to death. Second of many, the Carolingian Renaissance had exceeded under his rule.
