OKC Bombing 2 Devin Kotowski Intro to LE Kevin French 2/19/2019 Oklahoma City Bomber Until the attack on the terroristic attack World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001, the Oklahoma City bombing was the worst attack of terrorism to take place on United States soil. The Bombing was carried by Timothy McVeigh and his co-conspirator Terry Nichols. Around 9:00 a.m. on April 19, 1995, a rental truck filled with 5000 pounds of explosive -grade ammonium nitrate fertilizer blew with terrifying force in front of the nine-story Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City. This bombing left 168 people dead and hundreds more injured damaging over 300 nearby buildings. By the end of the night Bill Clinton the United States president at the time had addressed the United States. population. Clinton described the attack as “an act of cowardice, and it was evil. He vowed that the Federal government would find the individuals responsible and 'justice will be swift, certain, and severe.” (Study.com). He then sent a specialized crises team in to resolve the situation, he then declared Oklahoma to be in a state of emergency, next he put actions in place to protect other federal buildings. After the bombing, thousands of phone calls began ringing the phones of 911. Within the first hour, 50 people had been rescued from the rubble and sent to hospitals throughout the area. During the response there was a overwhelming amount of help from nearby citizens and emergency personnel that the protocol security zone couldn’t be created. A TV
