THE LATINO/HISPANIC ETHNIC GROUP 2 The Latino/Hispanic Ethnic Group It is estimated that 48 million Hispanics are now living in the U.S. making them the largest minority group. Surpassing the African American in number in 2001. This growth of population is due mainly to births, not immigration from abroad. Even though there is a long history of Hispanic residents in the United States, there was no effort to count them separately until the late 20 th century. Many of them circled the abbreviation for American to indicate they were American but this was seen as an error, therefore making the census count incomplete. The sub groups that make up the racial categories are white, black, Asian. American Indian, or Pacific Islander. But among Latinos there are only 63% that chose one of these and 37% that selected “some other race.” Federal policy defines Hispanic not as a race but as an ethnicity.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
