Implementation of Electronic Health Record Electronic health records (EHR) are the new technology of healthcare today. There are many advantages of EHR use including improved safety, ability to share healthcare information in real time, better coordination of care, and overall improved healthcare quality. However, the biggest obstacle in EHR implementation is user training. According to McGonigle and Mastrain (2018), implementation can be successful if all members of the healthcare have ownership of the product and processes. In Everett Rogers’ diffusion of innovation theory, he developed five main factors that influence the adoption of innovation. These factors include relative advantage, compatibility, simplicity, trialability, and observable results (Walden University, 2018). According to Boston University School of Public Health (2016), Rogers’ theory originated to explain how, over time, an idea or product gains momentum and diffuses (or spreads) through a specific population or social system; resulting with people, as part of a social system, adopting a new idea, behavior, or product. For this paper I will outline how I can implement Rogers’ diffusion of innovation theory to assist with the implementation of a new EHR system at a small facility in upstate New York. I will assist in preparing the nurses for implementation of the new HER, and assist in alleviating their resistance to change.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
