Running Head: Company Analysis of Netflix In 1997, Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph created a digital content and DVD rental business that revolutionized the modern movie watching experience. Originally renting and shipping DVD’s to consumers, in 2007 Netflix emerged as the forefront for online streaming. Now a world-wide sensation, they have “ over 109 million members in over 190 countries enjoying more than 125 million hours of TV shows and movies per day” (“About Netflix”). Besides controlling the online streaming business, Netflix still rents movies and video games. They hold deals with television and tech firms, allowing Netflix to be built directly into many devices. In 2013, the released their first “Netflix Original” series, House of Cards , and since then have released over 100 more original works. At twenty years in business, the company along with their original television shows now holds many awards, excellent ratings, and great revenue. Today, the battle with companies like Hulu and Amazon Prime for the hearts of the customers. According to The Balance, Reed Hastings, the CEO had often referred to the growth of his company as a “quest”. He uses words like judgement, creativity, and honesty to convey the message of the culture he is trying to create. More specifically however, Hastings vision for Netflix is “ Becoming the best global entertainment distribution service” and “Licensing entertainment content around the world" (Farfan, 2016). As of 2016, according to Statista , Netflix employs around 4700 people worldwide, most of which are full time. The headquarters are located in Los Gatos, California, near the tech hub known as “Silicon Valley”. For prospective customers, they can be found online at Neflix.com or with the Netflix app on most internet capable devices. For the company overview, that can be found at or . According to their own numbers, as of October 1, 2017, their net income for the year is $373,412,000 with a total revenue over $8.4 billion. J j 2
