2 Running Head: ZACHMAN FRAMEWORK Research Paper: Zachman Framework Introduction The Zachman Framework is a means of classifying an organizations architecture. It provides all the essential functions, elements and processes that enable an organization to function. It has stood the test of time because it is not granular which allows organizations to adapt the model as they see fit. The Zachman model identifies stakeholders within an organization and a flow of processes and business objects that distinguish each role. The framework’s adaptability is its strength, yet, it’s documentation heavy style, a weakness. The framework has been utilized by numerous organizations such as the Veterans Administration, Government of Ontario, and in a case study with IBM Finland. Purpose and Scope The Zachman EA framework is a tool used by businesses, to identify the different roles within the organization, in order to establish working relationships that occur when implementing new EA within the company. It classifies and organizes how a company is structured for the development of Enterprise systems. The framework is a tool, or object, used by a company to apply its respective perspectives and business processes into it in order to best define the organization. The Zachman framework is a tool for organizations to adapt and change over time ( , n.d. ). Principles and Structure The Zachman Framework provides a visual model that includes 36 categories for completely describing anything. The model itself follows a set of rules. The columns have no order: The columns can be interchanged but the cannot be eliminated or created. Each column is unique, each row follows a distinct, unique perspective, each cell is unique, and the integration of all cells in one row creates a
